Bibliotheca Wittockiana

by Emmanuel de Callataÿ · 1983

Bemelstraat 23, 1150 Sint-Pieters-Woluwe, Belgium

This project was created in 1983 as the only museum in the world devoted to fine bookbinding. Like a protective shell, the structure is constructed into the ground, hidden under trees and ivy. The walls, of powerfully striated raw concrete showing traces of formwork, were conceived to protect and conserve the collections. Inside is a series of simple spaces.
