boulevard Larousse, Marseille 14e Arrondissement, France
After World War II, the areas between Le Canet and Saint-Barthélémy became sites for informal housing that prompted resettlement programs. In 1953, Jean de Mailly devised an urban planning scheme between Saint-Gabriel and Campagne Larousse, leading to the construction of the first economically necessary housing units in 1954. This initiative was executed by one of the city’s first mixed-economy companies, SAMCLE, and the Caisse des Dépôts, which specializes in housing and facilities integration. The development, extending from Canet, forms part of ZUP n° 1, along with the northern highway.
