Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat de La Réunion

Government & Civic · by Cazanave Luc · 1985

rue Jean-Cocteau, Saint-Denis, France

In the late 1950s, Réunion's craftsmanship began to take shape with the establishment of the Association corporative des Artisans de La Réunion (ACAR) in 1957, aimed at creating a professional register for artisans and establishing a consular chamber. The Chambre de Métiers de La Réunion was officially founded in 1968 by prefectural decree. By the early 1980s, as the chamber had been temporarily situated in various locations in downtown Saint-Denis, the General Council decided to create a dedicated center for Réunion's artisans. In 1983, the departmental land in Champ-Fleuri was selected for this new hub, and the architectural competition was won by Luc Cazanave.
