Chapelle Saint-Bernard
Religion · by Henry Pottier · 1962
avenue de l'Europe, Colombes, France
The Saint-Bernard Chapel, designed by architect Henry Pottier, was constructed between 1962 and 1965 as part of the development of the Prairie district in Colombes. Its rounded forms create a distinct contrast with the surrounding orthogonal residential blocks. The structure is made of reinforced concrete and consists of two interconnected circular volumes. A large nave is complemented by a raised nave above the crypt, with the altar situated at their intersection, illuminated by a circular skylight. The concrete slab roof allows for an amphitheater-style layout without support pillars. The eastern facade is clad in black sandstone, while the west features light stone; the interior walls remain in raw concrete.
