Cité Le Biollay ; chapelle Saint-Jean-Bosco

Urban planning · by Laurent Chappis, Berthe, Fournier, René-Maria Burlet · 1950

quartier du Biollay, Chambéry, France

The Saint-Jean Bosco Church, designed by architect Pierre Jomain, was built to serve the new Biollay neighborhood in Chambéry, constructed between 1950 and 1959. Site preparation began in July 1956, and a commemorative stone marking the church's construction date was laid on October 7, in the presence of the Archbishop. Although not fully completed, the church was inaugurated on December 24, 1956. Initially featuring a plastic roof installed in 1957, it has since been replaced with a copper roof. The church, largely funded by parishioner contributions, was blessed by the Archbishop of Chambéry on April 8, 1957, but the planned bell tower was never built.
