École maternelle Bisson
Education · by Georges Tourry, Pierre Brunerie, Maurice Romualdo-Hautefage · 1954
2 rue Vauban, Lorient, France
Bisson School was constructed between 1950 and 1954 by architect Georges Tourry, with support from Pierre Brunerie and Maurice Romualdo-Hautefage, as part of the Reconstruction initiative to modernize municipal education in Lorient. Located on the site of the former Bisson barracks, donated by the French Navy, the school serves children from the city center and the new Eau Courante neighborhood. The design features three parallel bars—a primary school for girls, a primary school for boys, and a central nursery—arranged diagonally over one to two floors, which frees up space for playgrounds. Two of the buildings are connected by a glass-roofed covered area.
