Ecole primaire Pierre Mendès-France
Education · by André Cheftel · 1955
rue de Verdun ; rue des Écoles, Avranches, France
The decision to consolidate the reconstruction of the boys' school, girls' school, and home economics course was made in 1949, funded through war reparations, a state grant, and a contribution from the city. Architect André Cheftel presented a preliminary project in April 1950, with construction taking place in phases from 1955 to 1960. Located in the southeastern part of the city, the establishment is adjacent to an old racetrack that is set to become a sports field. Designed to accommodate 800 to 850 students, it originally included both primary schools, a complementary course with boarding facilities, and housing for staff and administration.
