Église Saint-Gohard
Religion · by André Guillou, Georges Ganuchaud, Fleury · 1954
boulevard de la Renaissance, Saint-Nazaire, France
The plans for the new Saint-Gohard Church were approved in late 1951 by Noël Lemaresquier, the chief architect for the reconstruction of Saint-Nazaire, along with the municipality. Although the construction permit for the bell tower was submitted on March 13, 1958, the original design included a campanile that was ultimately not built. Instead, a baptistery was constructed on the opposite side of the church. The first stone was laid on March 28, 1954, and the church was consecrated by Bishop Villepelet on October 20, 1955. Final works were completed in July 1957, following humidity issues detected in November 1956.
