Europa Building

by Samyn & Partners

Rue de la Loi 155, Belgium

The Europa structure is the seat of the European Council and Council of the European Union. The Residence Palace was created between 1922 and 1927 at the initiative of the financier Lucien Kasin and conceived by the Swiss architect Michel Polak. The complex is a collective housing experiment under the form of luxurious service flats located next to the city centre. However, in 2004 leaders decided the logistical problems created by the outdated facilities warranted the construction of a new purpose constructed seat able to cope with the nearly 6,000 meetings, working groups, and summits per year.
