Halle, marché de gros dit Marché d'Intérêt national
Commerce · by Marcel Welti · 1961
117-127 rue des Alliés, Grenoble, France
In the 1950s, Grenoble's direct supply system to the main city markets became inefficient, causing traffic congestion. In 1957, the city decided to alleviate congestion at the Saint-Claire market by establishing a wholesale market on the outskirts, modeled after the National Interest Market concept. Completed in 1961 and designed by city architect Marcel Welti, the new market occupies a spacious seven-hectare site, ensuring ease of access and serving as an intermediary between producers and retailers. This initiative aimed to improve distribution while addressing urban mobility issues.
