1 place Lavault, Thouars, France
The late 19th and early 20th centuries marked a significant period for urban development in French cities, including Thouars, which proposed relocating the old covered market from the square Saint-Médard to a new site at the eastern end of the fairgrounds between places Lavault and du Boël as early as 1898. This relocation aimed to enhance commercial accessibility for newer working-class neighborhoods near the train station but faced strong opposition from residents of the historic center, delaying approval until 1924. Municipal architects Bouchard and Burcier were appointed to design the new structure, which was inaugurated on December 3, 1926.
