Higashi Tamagawa House
House · by Kazuo Shinohara · 1973
Japan
House in Higashi-Tamagawa is a single-family residence by Kazuo Shinohara. The plan is organized around a central passage or “fissure” that produces a sequence of compressed and expanded spaces. Double-height volume and careful sectional relationships give the compact house an unexpectedly monumental interior. Traditional elements such as a tatami guest room are integrated within an abstract geometric composition.
