Jardin de l'imaginaire
Landscape · by Gustafson Kathryn, Philippe Marchand · 1996
place du Foirail, Terrasson-Lavilledieu, France
The Jardin de l'Imaginaire, designed by landscape architects Kathryn Gustafson and Philippe Marchand along with architect Ian Ritchie, is situated overlooking the Vézère River and the historic town. Established in the early 1990s, the garden features a contemporary path made up of 13 sections that narrate the history of gardens. Water is a central element, flowing through a narrow canal and a waterfall staircase. The passive greenhouse, constructed with gabion walls and topped with a glass roof, includes an exhibition space, café, and bookstore. Adjacent to it, an outdoor amphitheater with steel-arched seating is integrated into the natural slope of the landscape.
