302 avenue des Bordées, Dunkerque, France
The construction of a contemporary art museum in Dunkirk during the late 1970s and early 1980s reflects the city's ambition to provide a venue for contemporary artistic expression. This initiative was closely linked to entrepreneur Gilbert Delaine's efforts to establish a contemporary art collection. Uniquely, Delaine personally visited artists' studios to acquire representative works from post-1945 art movements, prioritizing impartiality and objectivity in his selections. This museum aims to support and showcase contemporary creation while fostering a rich cultural environment in the city.
