L’église Sainte-Jeanne d’Arc

L’église Sainte-Jeanne d’Arc

Religion · by Jacques Droz, René Lebel, Louis Castel · 1934

7 Rue Charles Péguy, 06100 Nice, France

The Église Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc in Nice is a striking example of early 20th-century modernism blending Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Designed by architects Castel and Jacques Droz, the church was built between 1914 and 1933 using reinforced concrete, an innovative choice at the time. Its bold silhouette features three ovoid domes and a 64-meter spire inspired by a paschal candle. Inside, vivid frescoes by Eugène Klementieff combine Russian cubism, Orthodox iconography, and Renaissance influences. Now a listed historic monument, the church stands as a masterpiece of avant-garde sacred architecture.
