Les Galeries Lafayette, anciennement Les Dames de France

Commerce · by Le Ray Emmanuel · 1925

17 rue des Minimes, Mans (Le), France

The store entrance, situated at the corner of Saint-Charles Street and Minimes Street, features a monumental design with a chamfered, curved façade topped by an oversized entablature, frieze, and cornice. The frieze is adorned with a floral-inspired molding that cascades in garlands on either side of the wide, convex bay windows, clearly delineating the two storeys of the building. The façade on Minimes Street is devoid of an awning, and the first and second floors are emphasized by a tall cornice with modillions and an intermediate cornice. The horizontal elements of the façade are highlighted by the thick lintels of the metal-frame windows, while the narrower jambs and horizontal crosspieces enhance the overall balance of the design.
