Culture · by Jacques Ripault et Denise Duhart · 2005
1 Place de la Libération, 94400 Vitry-sur-Seine, France
MAC VAL is the Val‑de‑Marne departmental museum of contemporary art in Vitry‑sur‑Seine. Designed by Jacques Ripault and Denise Duhart, it was inaugurated on November 17, 2005. The low, horizontal building uses white concrete and glass to create transparent elevations that open to the city and a 10,000 m² public garden. The museum totals about 13,000 m², including roughly 4,000 m² for permanent and temporary exhibitions. The plan emphasizes fluid circulation, daylight, and clear volumes, linking galleries, lobby, and landscape to form a “garden museum” and civic anchor on Place de la Libération.
