Mairie-école

Government & Civic · by Hoekstra J. · 1930

rue Paul Roussel ; route départementale 72, Albefeuille-Lagarde, France

In March 1930, flooding severely affected the villages and countryside along the Tarn River, prompting a reconstruction effort that required financial support from the state and contributions from various municipalities and foreign nations. The municipality of Albefeuille-Lagarde received assistance from the Netherlands. Architect Hayo Hoekstra, working for the Dutch government in the Ministry of National Education, designed the village's mairie-école, with the foundation stone laid in June 1931. Local architects G. Olivier and R. Sécard also developed a community plan focused on street alignment and the creation of public squares and gardens.
