Marché couvert, dit halles centrales
Commerce · by Gentil-et-Bourdet Le Ray Emmanuel · 1912
boulevard de la Liberté ; rue de Nemours ; place Honoré-Commereuc ; rue Jules-Simon, Rennes, France
The "Halles Centrales," built between 1912 and 1926 by architect Emmanuel Le Ray, is situated in Rennes, France. This market replaces the former grain hall and aims to provide modern facilities for the municipality. The building features a central courtyard surrounded by four wings: a large fish hall to the south, and vegetables and meat in the lateral wings, with the municipal fish market to the north. Its design includes slate roofs with long pitches supported by metal frameworks, complemented by skylights for natural ventilation and lighting, alongside electric lighting added during construction.
