Opéra Bastille (Opéra national de Paris)
Culture · by Carlos Ott, Roger Saubot, François Julien · 1989
2 place de la Bastille, Paris 12e Arrondissement, France
The Opéra Bastille was conceived to address the lack of high-quality musical facilities in Paris, beyond the historical Palais Garnier. It is part of a broader initiative that includes a music museum and conservatory, planned for the La Villette district in the northeastern part of the city. A comprehensive study evaluated various potential sites, ultimately selecting the Bastille location for the opera. This project, along with the music city and conservatory, forms part of President François Mitterrand's major construction initiatives known as "Grands Travaux."
