Pirelli HangarBicocca
by April Architects, Francesco Tiribelli, Alessandro Farinella, Marco Bay · 2012
via Chiese 2, Milano, Italy
This project converts vast former industrial sheds into a major contemporary art venue while preserving the scale and raw character of the structures. A new forecourt and threshold sequence stages the transition from the city to the exhibition halls, framing arrival as part of the experience. Inside, the monumental volumes allow for large‑format installations and long-term commissions. The design emphasizes adaptability while keeping the memory of the site’s industrial past present.
