Playground Duperré Pigalle

22 Rue Duperré, 75009 Paris, France
A narrow outdoor basketball court wedged between Haussmannian buildings, Playground Duperré occupies 22 Rue Duperré in Paris’s 9th arrondissement. First renovated in 2009, it was conceived by fashion designer Stéphane Ashpool (Pigalle) with creative direction by Ill-Studio, and supported by the City of Paris and Nike. The compact court features rubber surfacing and recurrent graphic repaints that have refreshed the site in 2015, 2017 and 2020. New backboards and marked lines allow casual play despite non-regulation dimensions. The project demonstrates how modest urban voids can be transformed into active, visually striking public amenities.
