Réservoir d’eau, actuellement bâtiment de la Lyonnaise des eaux
Infrastructure · by René Guichemerre · 1948
26 rue Chaude-Tuile, Orléans, France
The water reservoir, now an office of the Lyonnaise des Eaux, is part of the municipal water service installations in Orléans. These facilities were destroyed during the Allied bombings in May and July 1944. Following the Liberation, the city initiated a program to improve public water distribution, which was opened to competition in 1946. The winning bid came from construction firm Campenon-Bernard, which was already engaged in the reconstruction of Orléans' city center. Their proposal, while not more expensive than competitors', provided superior technical and aesthetic quality, thanks to the collaboration with architect René Guichemerre.
