rue du Général-Hoche, Faches-Thumesnil, France

The town of Faches-Thumesnil, located south of Lille, experienced significant demographic growth in the 1950s, increasing its population from 8,000 to 12,000 residents. In response to this expansion, the municipality developed numerous facilities, including schools and sports infrastructures. In 1951, the ground floor of the former town hall was transformed to accommodate a community hall for local events, but it quickly proved inadequate. Consequently, a new community hall was constructed in 1954 on Rue Edouard-Vaillant, known as the current Georges-Baron Hall. However, this outlying and small facility was still unable to meet the needs of the rapidly growing population.
