Synagogue de la Paix
Religion · by Berst Jean-Paul, Claude Meyer-Lévy · 1947
1 rue René Hirschler, Strasbourg, France
The Synagogue de la Paix was established in response to the destruction of the previous synagogue in Strasbourg by the Nazis in 1940. In the late 1940s, local leaders collaborated with the Jewish community to find a temporary place of worship. In 1948, the city provided a building from the former Arsenal at Place Broglie. The provisional consistorial synagogue was inaugurated on March 19, 1950, symbolizing the spiritual revival of the Jewish community in Strasbourg. The structure was designed by architect Lucien Cromback, with assistance from Edmond Picard.
