Synagogue
Religion · by Pierre Sonrel, Jean Duthilleul · 1963
2 allée Marcel-Cerdan, Massy, France
The architects Pierre Sonrel and Jean Duthilleul were commissioned in 1963 by the Chantiers du consistoire to design a synagogue in Massy, France, intended for North African Sephardic Jews. The building features a low, rectangular structure made of concrete blocks, with stone gable ends and a low-pitched corrugated metal roof. Metal lattice work supports the roof on the side façades, creating a continuous band of windows at the top of the walls. This design element was previously employed by Duthilleul in his chapel at Rueil-Malmaison. Originally, the internal walls were left raw, although they were covered in the 1980s.
