Van Zuuk Residence

House · by René van Zuuk · 2008

Netherlands

This compact family home is organized as a sequence of split levels that slide past one another, creating long sightlines and pockets of double‑height space. Two parallel circulation routes let daily life flow in more than one way, so rooms can be connected or kept separate depending on use. Large openings and carefully placed voids pull daylight deep into the plan and frame selective views outward. The envelope reads as a crisp, contemporary shell, but the interior is deliberately warm and tactile, emphasizing everyday domestic rituals. Rather than relying on ornament, the architecture builds character through section, proportion, and the choreography of movement.
