185 Rue Belliard
Collective housing · by Henri Deneux · 1913
25 Rue des Tennis, 75018 Paris, France
On a tiny triangular lot at the corner of Rue Belliard and Rue des Tennis in Paris’s 18th arrondissement, Henri Deneux built this four-storey residence for his own use, completed in 1913. The structure explores early reinforced-concrete techniques derived from the Cottancin system, combining a cementitious framework with brick infill. Its colorful street elevations are clad with glazed stoneware tiles by Gentil & Bourdet, with geometric relief panels, ironwork balconies, and an emphatic chamfered corner. The project shows Deneux’s experimental approach—better known from his heritage work—applied to urban domestic architecture, optimizing light and ventilation on a constrained site.
