Chapelle Saint-Joseph-des-Epinettes
Religion · by Heaume Arthur-Georges, Persitz Alexandre · 1964
38 rue Épinettes, Paris 17e Arrondissement, France
The Chapelle Saint-Joseph-des-Epinettes, designed by architects Arthur-Georges Héaume and Alexandre Persitz in 1964 with engineer René Sarger, is located beneath the courtyard of the residential building "Nord-Beauséjour" at 38 rue Épinettes, Paris. The chapel and associated parish facilities are situated underground, indicated only by a triangular lantern featuring a cross, which houses a concrete screen and colored glass tiles by Saint-Just, providing natural light over the altar. The worship space is characterized by a ceiling of pleated concrete sails supported by inclined V-shaped columns, reminiscent of the design found in the synagogue on rue de la Roquette.
