Autel de la Patrie et crypte du monument National du Silberloch
Funerary · by Danis Robert, Bourdelle Antoine · 1923
col du Hartmannswillerkopf ; Silberloch, Soultz-Haut-Rhin, France
The National Monument of Silberloch, situated at the Hartmannswillerkopf site, was established to commemorate soldiers who died in World War I. In 1920, a committee from the Souvenir français initiated a national fundraising campaign for its construction. Initial projects faced delays due to the classification of the surrounding battlefields in February 1921. Work on the crypt commenced in 1923 under the plans of architect Robert Danis, while sculptor Antoine Bourdelle created the accompanying statues in 1925. This monument serves as a significant memorial for the Alsatian front.
