boulevard du Maréchal-Lyautey, Grenoble, France

In the 1950s, the University Council decided to relocate the university library from the cramped Palais de l’Université to a larger space. The municipality provided land on Boulevard Maréchal Lyautey, and the project was assigned to architect Jean Benoît in 1960. Construction took three years, with one year each for the foundations, structural work, and finishes, including the installation of thermo-electric systems. In 1970, after being vacated by the university, the building became home to the municipal library, which had been established in 1772. Renovations were carried out on the offices on the fifth floor in 1992-1993.
