The European Archaeological Center, initiated in the mid-1980s following national interest in the study and promotion of Bibracte under François Mitterrand, aims to enhance knowledge of the site and Celtic culture. The ambitious project, set in a rural context, encompasses three key sites: Mont Beuvray with its archaeological excavations, the archaeological base, and the museum dedicated to Celtic civilization. A programming study outlined the development directions of this center, which was officially recognized as part of major national projects in 1989, and a competition was held in 1990 to select its design.
