Monument à Notre-Dame-du-Suprême-Pardon

Funerary · by Renaud Georges-Théodore · 1927

le Bourg, Chiddes, France

The Monument to Notre-Dame-du-Suprême-Pardon, designed by architect Georges-Théodore Renaud in 1927, was established to bolster the faith of parishioners in Chiddes amidst municipal opposition and rural depopulation. Initiated in 1908, an annual pilgrimage to Mont Charlet, which overlooks the village, has gathered many devotees since its inception. In 1911, the diocese commissioned Renaud to create a bell tower for a new parish church as well as this commemorative monument at the summit, honoring the grand pardon of Notre-Dame. The monument was completed in 1927.
