Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, France

The Centre de loisirs dit Le Balcon de Belledonne, designed by architect Pascal Haüsermann, was constructed between 1963 and 1966 at an altitude of 1,200 meters in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, France. Originally functioning as a restaurant, it offered patrons tranquility, stunning views of the Belledonne mountain range, and amenities such as a solarium, swimming pool, and sauna. The building's unique whale-like shape has led locals to nickname it accordingly. Currently, the center is abandoned, with its concrete exterior now covered in moss, and it is situated on private property.
