Cité Guynemer
Urban planning · by André Lurçat, Georges Janvier · 1964
rue Guynemer, Saint-Denis, France
Cité Guynemer, built between 1964 and 1969, is one of the last projects by architect André Lurçat, who served as the chief urban planner of Saint-Denis since 1945. Located across from Delaune Stadium and separated by a roadway, it features a distinct typology compared to Lurçat's previous projects. The development comprises 128 housing units arranged in an H-shaped building with slightly concave facades, rising eight stories above a half basement. Central to the layout are stairwells that connect the two wings, designed based on a system of economy and rationalization conceived by Lurçat during the 1955 Million competition. A playground occupies the central area, with parking spaces located around the perimeter.
