Cité Rotterdam
Urban planning · by Beaudoin Eugène · 1951
rue de Rotterdam, Strasbourg, France
The Cité Rotterdam addresses technical and economic goals amid political and diplomatic challenges. Following the 1949 Washington Treaty, which facilitated the revival of Germany, Strasbourg's displaced residents were allowed to return in 1953. The establishment of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg increased housing demands, prompting the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning to plan for 800 new units. Minister Eugène Claudius-Petit initiated an experimental construction competition in late 1950 to meet these urgent needs.
