École nationale d'horlogerie (ancienne)
Education · by Paul Guadet · 1928
1 rue Labbé, Besançon, France
In 1928, architect Paul Guadet was commissioned to design a new building for the École nationale d'horlogerie, initiated by school director Louis Tricano and technical education director Edmond Labbé. This structure, which houses the National School of Horology and Electricity as well as the Institute of Chronometry, features classrooms, workshops, a boarding facility, playgrounds, the director's residence, and an astronomical observation dome. The design is based on an A-shaped plan, with the apex serving as the main entrance façade. Two wings extend along Clémenceau and Villarceau avenues, connected at the back by a transverse section, defining the main courtyard.
