place de l'Église, Monts d'Aunay (Les), France
The Saint-Samson Church was reconstructed in 1951 in Aunay-sur-Odon by architect Pierre Chirol. Its reinforced concrete structure is complemented by limestone masonry, featuring regularly spaced stone bands arranged in a fishbone pattern. The design draws inspiration from Romanesque churches, incorporating a Latin cross plan with a tripartite nave and side aisles, where the transverse vaults are made of reinforced concrete. The choir includes an ambulatory, culminating in a semi-dome apse. A cloister adjoins the west side of the nave. The church's stained glass program was developed by a team of four artists, led by painter Jacques Le Chevallier, who designed the contrasting colored windows for the transept.
