Helicopter Building
Infrastructure · by Nicolas Hugon, Stephane Maupin · 2010
France
A specialized training and logistics building designed for transit operations at the edge of Paris’ urban fabric. Programs are stacked by floor—workshops, storage, and support spaces—so the building functions like a vertical piece of infrastructure. The architecture turns inward in response to its heterogeneous industrial surroundings, carving courtyards and terraces to bring light and air. A distinctive roof profile—often compared to helicopter blades—integrates functional elements such as lighting and solar equipment. Rather than hide its utilitarian role, the building makes industrial program legible and surprisingly sculptural.
