Hôtel central des Postes

Government & Civic · by Pierre Thuriès · 1939

9 rue Lafayette ; rue Kennedy, Toulouse, France

The Central Post Office is located on a through lot, with its main facade facing Charles de Gaulle Square and the rear facade on John Fitzgerald Kennedy Street. Originally built in 1886 by architect Joseph Thillet, it centralized all postal services. However, due to the growth of telecommunications, it soon became cramped, leading several services to move out by 1909. In 1926, the PTT management decided to expand the Post Office, beginning expropriations on Lafayette Street in 1929. The project was assigned to regional architect Pierre Thuriès, with construction starting in 1939, which ultimately extended until 1946.
