Hôtel de ville
Government & Civic · by Roger Kohn, Louis Chanel, Lavergne Max · 1932
34 rue de la République, Valserhône, France
Until 1932, the town hall of Bellegarde-de-Valserine was located in part of the current Louis Dumont college premises. Due to increased student numbers and a lack of space, local authorities urged the town to vacate the school-town hall for either a new school or a town hall. In 1929, Mayor Joseph Bertola and the municipal council decided to construct a new town hall on the site of the former presbytery gardens near the church. The city organized an architectural competition won by architects Roger Kohn and Max Lavergne. The plans included a community hall, a gymnasium, meeting rooms, and a police station adjacent to the town hall.
