5 Rue Curial, 75019 Paris, France
Le Centquatre-Paris is a large cultural venue occupying the former municipal funeral services complex in the 19th arrondissement. The site, entered from 5 Rue Curial and 104 Rue d’Aubervilliers, was originally built in the 1870s with masonry halls and metal roof structures. Its adaptive reuse, completed in 2008, transformed stables, carriage bays and workshops into flexible spaces for exhibitions, performances, rehearsal studios and creative work. A covered internal passage, conceived as a public thoroughfare, connects the ensemble and supports everyday uses alongside programmed events. The project preserves the industrial character while upgrading circulation, daylight and accessibility to function as a contemporary arts hub for the neighborhood and the city.
