Education · by Roger Richez, Michel Raclot, André Wogensky, Blauwe Pierre de · 1957
31 boulevard Pasteur, Paris 15e Arrondissement, France
The Lycée Fresnel features an atypical history linked to its educational focus as a school of applied optics. Its distinctive design includes a fully glazed facade, inspired by Corbusier's architecture, maximizing natural light and paying tribute to glass, a fundamental material in optics. Various types of glass are utilized, including windows, hollow and solid glass bricks, wavy and frosted glass. The entrance is characterized by two doors with a lightweight metal frame supporting translucent tempered glass panels, providing street visibility from inside. Key circulation areas, such as the side staircases made of Comblanchien stone, are illuminated with sections of glass bricks, enhancing the overall quality of the space.
