2 place Émile-Colongin, Grillon, France
Described as an "asteroid" that landed in a fortified medieval village, the International Institute of Arts and Techniques of Polymers has a striking presence in Grillon, Vaucluse. Spearheaded by Pierre Vollant, the deputy director of Gerland and mayor of Grillon until 2001, the project aimed to revitalize the medieval quarter known as Vialle. Faced with the challenge of integrating a modern facility amidst historic ruins near the bell tower and the Maison des trois Arcs, Vollant selected architect Saint Olive's design for its alignment with his vision for the site.
