Médiathèque et scène nationale L’Equinoxe
Culture · by Godivier Jean-Louis · 1990
41 avenue Charles-de-Gaulle, Châteauroux, France
The need for a new cultural hub in Châteauroux prompted the municipal council in the late 1980s to develop a program that combines a media library and a national performance space. The chosen site on Avenue Charles-de-Gaulle benefits from its proximity to the city center and is characterized by its elongated, shallow shape adjacent to the Chapel of the Redemptorists. In May 1991, the project was awarded to architect Jean-Louis Godivier, winner of a national architecture competition. Known for his bold and free forms, Godivier's designs resemble sculptures and resist classification within historical architectural styles.
