Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris

Culture · by Jean-Claude Dondel, André Aubert, Paul Viard et Marcel Dastugue · 1937

11 Avenue du Président Wilson, 75116 Paris, France

The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris occupies the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo complex on the Right Bank. Designed for the 1937 Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques, the ensemble pairs streamlined classical colonnades with reinforced concrete and limestone cladding. The museum’s entrance sequence leads to generous galleries arranged around long enfilades and double‑height halls suited to large-scale works, including Raoul Dufy’s La Fée Électricité. While the west wing later became the contemporary art center Palais de Tokyo, the city’s modern art museum has remained in the east wing, reflecting the building’s original dual-museum program and urban frontage along Avenue du Président Wilson.
