Quartier de la gare
Urban planning · by Castan Raoul, Joseph Berthier, Trenet LouisMuchir Férid, Mas Chancel Édouard · 1910
quai Nobel, Perpignan, France
The architecture of the train station district is highly heterogeneous, reflecting a long construction period since the mid-19th century. The urban atmosphere combines Beaux-Arts style, Catalan or Hispanic-inspired regionalism, and picturesque modernism, influenced by Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and ocean liner styles. Both prominent and modest structures represent the popular architectural movements in Perpignan during the first half of the century. Construction continued into the 1960s and 70s, significantly altering the urban landscape established in the 19th and early 20th centuries through large-scale buildings and a diminished architectural quality, particularly evident in streets like Franklin and cours Lazare-Escarguel.
