Résidence La Traverso

House · by Mione Denis, Michel Arbousset · 1979

1-9 place de la Traverso, Avignon, France

In the 1970s, urban development around the Charles de Gaulle ring road in Avignon continued southward, challenging the harsh forms of traditional high-rise buildings in favor of more complex volumetric designs inspired by vernacular architecture. The La Traverso residence, comprising 58 units ranging from T1 to T6, represents this shift and is situated south of the ring road, marking the city's expansion towards the Puy canal, which will define Avignon's green belt. Initially launched by the city's public housing office, La Traverso is now managed by Vallis Habitat, a public organization in the Vaucluse department.
