Rue de Picpus Social Housing

Collective housing · by ECDM Architectes · 2008

France

Squeezed between two very different urban fabrics, the building acts as a deliberate 'collage' that reconciles mismatched scales and alignments. A neutral, gridded outer expression is interrupted by color and depth, giving residents generous balconies while animating the street edge. Shared spaces are treated as social infrastructure—mail areas and even laundry functions are designed to encourage interaction rather than isolation. The architecture turns a standard housing brief into an urban stitch, making the corner condition feel resolved and lively.
