Synagogue dit Centre communautaire Ohel-Youssef

Religion · by Carril Christine, Dominique Carril · 1992

8 rue Gambetta, Pantin, France

The Ohel-Youssef Community Center, built in 1992 for the Sephardic Jewish community of Pantin, was designed by architects Christine and Dominique Carril. The synagogue features a geometric assemblage of simple volumes constructed from raw or Calvi stone-clad white concrete. Its distinctive convex parabolic roof, developed in collaboration with engineer Marc Mimram, adds to its architectural character. Initially set back from a garden, the complex encompasses the place of worship, classrooms, a library, and a conference room, organized around an inner courtyard. The square prayer hall is illuminated by a glass strip along the junction of the walls and roof, as well as large windows in the eastern wall housing the Ark.
